One hour to the north,<\/p>\n<p>there is a bend in the Willowemoc known only to fisherman<br \/>\nand map-makers, where<\/p>\n<p>the golden hour hooks the trout, scales refracted silver<br \/>\nbelow the surface.<\/p>\n<p>Along Route 17 nothing is drawn to scale.<\/p>\n<p>Distances are measured in days and everything slopes<\/p>\n<p>toward the east. When the sun has risen<br \/>\nand the trout have all been caught<\/p>\n<p>and the house behind the general store has been torn down,<\/p>\n<p>what is to say this town on the map<br \/>\nwas ever anything more<br \/>\nthan some cartographer\u2019s folly?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Berkowitz<\/strong> is a poet, web developer and aspiring trapeze artist living in Somerville, Massachusetts.
