We whispered<br \/>\nas if they were ghost stories:<\/p>\n<p>David said his brother said<br \/>\nyou come out like a veteran<br \/>\ncrash test dummy. Keith heard<br \/>\nthey gave hundred-dollar bills<br \/>\nto employees who tested it.<\/p>\n<p>Cannonball Loop<br \/>\nis a Great American Rite-of-Passage.<br \/>\nDamn the safety regulations<br \/>\nand the laws of physics, we build<br \/>\nwhat shouldn\u2019t, but must, exist:<br \/>\nmine cart thrill rides, canyon tightropes,<\/p>\n<p>waterslides with loop-de-loops.<br \/>\nI can\u2019t pass that up, despite<br \/>\nthe scraped elbows and contusions.<br \/>\nJust think of the stories, the effort<br \/>\nput into this contraption.<\/p>\n<p>Cold water runs past my legs.<br \/>\nI can see the escape hatch from here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MICHAEL MINGO<\/strong> is an undergraduate student at Carnegie Mellon University, majoring in creative writing.
